riosleftsock,

60% of Irish trade is with the EU, I think about 16% is with the UK (from memory). IIRC, it's a lot higher for certain sectors, eg food/agriculture.

There's a lot of scaremongering about all this by Irish politicians/media (similar kind of stuff to what the brexiteers have been accusing the remainers of), but I see no logic in that at all. The UK and Ireland had a relationship long before either was in the EU and have every reason to continue trading.

Meanwhile, Ireland now becomes even more attractive in terms of inward investment as a low tax, low regulation (well, relatively), genuinely English speaking destination.

Re: Gutted cunts thread
Both sides lied through their teeth - this is normal, but Remain cheated in the following ways:

1) Use the civil service for research and denied the leave camp the same opportunity

2) Spent millions of pounds of public money on a propaganda leaflet and refused the leave camp similar funding

3) Used the state funded BBC and C4 as a state propaganda arm reminiscent of Pravda at its worst.

4) Abused its position as a major funder to get the IMF and IFS to prepare an economic report blatently biased towards leave

5) Abused the powers of parliament by extending the voter registration deadline for 2 days because the server went down for the last 40 minutes of the 5 months available to register in.

6) Intimidated businesses in to supporting remain by threatening to withdraw government contracts.

7) Cynically used the death of Joe Cox to further their own ends.

AND THEY STILL LOST BY 1 1/4 MILLION VOTES.

And now the losers are squealing 'it's not fair'.

Mart

Eire has a massively disproportionate amount of its trade with the UK, can't remember the percentage but I thin it may be as high as 90%.

If we can, we probably need to help them where we can and show the EU what alliances and being a good neighbour is all about.

If it does so, then it will be able take over the full administration of the six counties then subsequently evolve a "united Ireland"*

* - Quite a few protestants will most likely get bashed up during this transition, but it's all for a peaceful Europe, so that's alright, eh?

I think Ireland could end up doing very well out of all this.

Merrill moved their clearing staff to Dublin about 5/6 years ago, a lot of investment banks have done the same, I'm surprised MS has taken so long.

Irish - haha

Sources within Morgan Stanley have secretly and unofficially told us they're moving now.

However, official sources have said otherwise for the time being.

Is that even worth reporting the first bit then?!

Morgan Stanley to 'adapt accordingly'

Morgan Stanley's Canary Wharf headquarters
Sources within Morgan Stanley have told the BBC that the bank is stepping up a process that could see up to 2,000 of its London-based investment banking staff being relocated to Dublin or Frankfurt.

The US bank, which established a task force looking into any staff relocations, will not be waiting for Article 50 that triggers the formal process of a country quitting the EU.

The jobs that could be moved from the UK would be in euro clearing, as well as other investment banking functions and senior management.

The bank needs to use the passporting system, which allows banks to offer financial services in all EU countries without having to establish a permenant base in that member state.

The president of Morgan, Stanley Colm Kelleher, told Bloomberg two days ago that Brexit would be “the most consequential thing that we’ve ever seen since the war”.

Morgan Stanley today denied reports that it had begun the process of relocation: “The UK’s vote to leave the European Union is a very significant decision which will have a considerable impact, the extent of which will not be known for some time. There will be at least a period of two years before an actual exit takes place, so there will be time to implement any changes required to adjust our business to the new environment.

"Morgan Stanley will continue to monitor developments very closely and will adapt accordingly while prioritising the interests of our clients, our shareholders and our employees.”

Re: Gutted cunts thread
jools, and we will help cornwall.

Long term we will help them by restoring their fishing rights and their right to roll cheeses down hills or set fire to witches.

We wil also stop funding their silly language program, rather give them enough dosh and let them decide how to spend it.

Re: Gutted cunts thread
Racist old people are to blame for all of this.

Young people have a future, YouGov suggested they wanted to remain.

Anyone outside the age bracket is going to die soon and the vote should be ignored. Fuck their future and right to vote.

We need to call on another democratic vote where the people who want to remain can remove the following from being allowed to vote

White people
Old people
Not so old people
Sun Readers
White van men
Enguuurland fans
Anyone living outside of London, N.Ireland, Scotland, Wales

Then we can have a proper democracy again.

This is bollox.

And next time we vote with these cunts out the picture I'm bring my fucking pen.

I voted Remain and am obviously gutted we lost, but some of the shit being spouted by Remainers is pitiful.

We lost fair and square so let's get on with it. 48% is not half of the vote - it's not even nearly half of the population given the turnout was around 70%.

Quit your fucking moaning frankly.

I wanted Scotland to leave last year. If they do leave now this will be a double result. Triple if Northern Ireland go too.

The Welsh can stay though, it's never been anything more than a region of England anyway.
